We are thrilled to share that ASTROGAZE: Memory of Stars, a major new work by acclaimed visual artist Tim Georgeson in partnership with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, has received significant support from Creative Australia.
ASTROGAZE invites audiences into the primordial theatre of Sky Country, a work of reverence and urgency calling for the protection of one of the darkest skies on Earth and the deep connections between land, water, and sky.
A groundbreaking cinematic and sonic experience, Astrogaze explores ancestral star mapping, songlines, and voice across the night skies of Lutruwita / Tasmania. Through immersive cinema, sound, and installation, the work draws viewers into a space where celestial knowledge, cultural memory, and ecological awareness converge.
As artificial light increasingly erodes our relationship with darkness, ASTROGAZE becomes both a starlit odyssey and a contemporary cartography tracing what is disappearing from the night sky and reminding us that dark skies carry vital cultural, ecological and ancestral knowledge.
This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body.
ASTROGAZE is scheduled to premiere at the Ten Days on the Island festival in 2027.
